Alexandra Park 8s 7 – EBOG 7s 5

Minor Division 5 North | September 21, 2013

It was a dreary afternoon when the AP8s faced off against an EBOG side that destroyed them pre-season. However the side felt optimistic after some good recent performances. The match started with AP having good possession and making some good early chances, and we were unfortunate to go one behind from an EBOG corner and a rather dodgy looking challenge on Toby, the AP keeper. EBOG then had a period on top, until Peter got the ball on the edge of the box, turned and fired home the equaliser. Galvanised we took the initiative, and managed to take the lead before half time, this time it was Reece to rescue with a well placed shot. The second half was one of the most unusual I have played in at AP. In a very British way we seemed to take turns to score. It went a little something like this:

2-2 – they score a penalty

3-2 – Laurie scores to make up for giving away the penalty

4-2 – Adam scores goal of the season. Fantastic lob that clipped the bar on the way in. Entries are now closed!

4-3 – An unfortunate OG. I forget who scored but it certainly wasn’t their fault!

5-3 – Reece again, another calmly taken goal

5-4 – Ball cut through the high line of our defence, and unfortunately our rather doughy defenders couldn’t get back in time

6-4 – Their keeper spills, Peter pounces on the opportunity

6-5 – Another OG, this time from a corner, well they needed a little help keeping in the game

7-5, right at the end Reece gets his hat-trick, completing a rather wonderful performance.

Apologies if I got this in the wrong order, but there were 12 goals!

In the end a convincing win for AP, but we will need to be a little more thorough against some of the stronger teams in the division.

MOM – Reece, first time out of defence and he scores a hat-trick!
