Football at the Clubhouse in the COVID age

Football returns to the AP Clubhouse this weekend. Like most other things in our lives at the moment, there are a few rules to follow that mean things will be different to how they used to be.

Please read the guidance below about the rules you need to follow when playing at home to ensure that you keep yourself and others safe.

The key points to note are

  • If you or someone you live with has any Covid-19 symptoms, stay at home
  • Bring a marked water bottle with your name on it or ensure it is in your bag and is clearly identifiable. There are no water-filling facilities at the Clubhouse.
  • Walk or cycle to the ground where possible. Car-sharing with people from other households is not advised
  • Meet outside and maintain 2m of social distance.
  • Sanitise your hands

Only use the Clubhouse to:

  • collect and return equipment
  • use toilet facilities
  • queue for the bar

There are no changing facilities or showers available at the Clubhouse.
The bar is open for drinks that must be consumed outside. There will be no food served. No drinking or socialising is to take place inside.

If you develop Covid-19 symptoms within 48 of playing for AP, contact your team captain and Tim Banks, the club’s Covid officer.

Les Anderson Memorial

This Saturday the First XI take on the Reserves in a friendly game in memory of Les Anderson. Kickoff is at 2pm at the club.

The Memorial game is not so much for one man but more a tribute to what it means to be part of Alexandra Park FC.

Les joined AP in 1954. He was playing at Darlington FC at the end of his National Service when he was scouted by Bill Houston the manager from AP.

He played in the great AP side of the mid fifties with the likes of Jack Drake, George Warner, Bev and Brian Edwards amongst others and winning the AFA seniors Cup in 1955. He continued to play until the early 60s.

He rekindled the connection in 1986 when he brought me to the club and renewed old friendships. He then spent the next 30 years travelling all over London watching me play and supporting any AP team he could get to watch. He last turned out in Tangerine and Black in 1998 against Southgate Olympic.

He took particular enjoyment in watching the likes of Jed Wood, Ben Carter and Gary Jones and possibly his favourite match was an epic 4-5 win away at Southgate Olympic when the 3rd XI were 4-0 at half time and down to 10 men and Kurt Fullerton had stepped between the sticks to save a penalty. Ashley Brade scored the winner at the death. We often recalled that day.

On a personal note I would like to thank every player who came into contact with Dad, you all made his love of AP all the more precious whether it was in the 1st team or the 6th team. Thank you

If anyone wishes to make a donation in his memory, please make it to Cancer Research.
