Alexandra Park 6s 6 – Tansley 0

SAL Junior Div 2 North | September 16, 2017

Scorers: Creed (2) L.Smith (2) Charles, Khider

The first game of the season was finally upon us after having to wait an extra week due to having no game. The glory of pitch 2 at the marvellous race course beckoned.

We lined up with a very youthful team and with two cultured centre backs within a back 3. From the off we dominated; quickly debutant Creed darting in from a drilled ball slotted home. AP had hit the ground running much to the delight of the Skipper.

After this the tempo from us didn’t drop however our finishing did. Three one on ones squandered and heroics from the beans on toast had the skipper sweating during his half time team talk. Much to his bemusement his father, an ex AP skipper, decided to hijack the praise and turn it into a much more of a bollocking than stroking of the ego’s. To be fair to the seasoned vet his advice worked. No more long balls but players passing and moving and getting to the by-line and hittng the ball in low and hard (due to our lack of height) and 1 become 4 very quickly. Khider was formidable on the left wing and anyone on the edge was receiving a great service which was being dispatched.

Tansley were most likely not use to the altitude after kicking up hill in the first half and struggled with the pace of the game and our composure in the second half. Cook in goal when needed pulled off two brilliant saves and Lewis, Oz and Charlie Smith as a back three dominated their forwards.

The skipper was relieved he had no penalties to miss this week as full time was called. An emphathic win to start the season and we go again away at Winchmore next week where we hope our CB Will Lewis will make it back from New York to don the tangerine jersey.
