Scorers: Knight, Byrne-Nelson, Twyford
After a two week break the 5s got back to action at Preston Manor due to the Racecourse ground being unplayable. After this weeks performance we will probably be wanting to play at PM all the time as the first 45 minutes were the best minutes we’ve had this season! Plus the 5s thirst for beer and Jager means we are always rolling into the clubhouse and leaving at last orders….we ended up at Bethnal Green….the brave ended up continuing the night out…I had to bail!
We started the first half well and completely dominated throughout with Andy Sievewright being a complete bystander in the whole half…I actually felt bad when I blocked the one shot in the first half so it didn’t even make it’s way through to our keeper!
Our passing was brilliant on saturday…switching it from side to side with ease and really pulling the WH team across the pitch. Bowhill and Twyford had brilliant games! Their crossing was brilliant and were a danger to WH’s defence throughout the game. Their performance was boosted by the impressive Fortucci and Doyle…two players who are extremely confident on the ball and play great football, always looking for the easy pass and not the hoof down field.
James Rae put in another energetic display, this guy can literally play anywhere! He took the role of filling in for Watson with ease and found himself ‘marauding’ constantly to great effect! Chris Wilson was spraying the ball around left, right and centre, finding our wingers constantly with his classy passing…not bad for the day after an Xmas party.
Our youngest player Twyford had a great game, not only scoring a neat finish but also hitiing the wings with some incredible crossing, It’s a real shame that he won’t be staying with us for the whole of the season…Paddy Knight is working on trying to get him to stay though!
Our forwards Paddy Knight, Pat and Doddimead all played very well, with endless running and ran the WH defence ragged throughout the game. Knight got his sixth goal in six games, Pat got another goal and Matt was unlucky to see a shot hit the post, that illustrious goal shall come soon enough.
James Robinson who was called up from the 6s came on at half time and was solid throughout, he had the tricky task of marking WHs littlle player and kept him quiet all game. Joe Robinson and myself had very little to do in the first half but managed to keep hold of a clean sheet and our defensive record is looking fantastic. We have conceded just 4 goals in 9 league games…a complete team effort…as the old cliche goes ‘defend from the front and attack from the back!’
We are now half way through the season and we have to remain grounded and keep winning our games as we can’t let the 5th team curse happen again by seeing our season fall away in the new year. Everyone who has played for the 5s has been fantastic so far so long may it continue…the only person who isn’t happy is Sievewright as every week he has to keep buying the ‘clean sheet jug’…next time Andy it’ll be on myself!
