Alexandra Park 5s 6 – Crouch End Vampires 5s 1

SAL Minor Div 2 North | October 18, 2014

Scorers: Doddimead, Knight(2), Wilson, Watson, Bowhill

Another week and another top performance by the 5s! Followed by the 5s Social which as always accelerated into Jäger madness! Myself went awol after leaving the club and I hear that the few left made it to Kings Cross to carry on the festivities! A slight worry was receiving “Dunno where you are but its so still going on. Uber to here?” text message from Dodimead at 07:39am on sunday morning…it shall be interesting to see if anyone has heard from him since!

We were expecting a tough battle but ended up pushing CEVs aside with our classy passing football. The only blemish on the performance was conceding… although being 3-0 up we let in a sloppy goal but it was good to see everyone’s frustration as we have very high standards so far!

The addition of Paddy Knight and Chris Wilson brought a new dimension to the team, and we made CEV pay for their risky high line defending and trying the offside trap. First it was the ever impressive Watson ( APs very own Nemanja Matic) who found himself beating the offside trap and finishing superbly!

Our second goal was from Knight who showed great awareness to stroll in past the defence and to finish with ease whilst their defence were screaming offside!

Our defence was solid as usual with stand out performances from James Rae and Joe Robinson and the composed John Murphy. It was a shame to lose Perkins early on and is now looking at a lengthy injury break.

The second half was great for the 5s, it’s a good sign to see that our fitness seems to be very impressive and we are outlasting most opponents. Stand out goal of the day was a superb team effort starting from Wright to Watson, who then sent Rae galloping down the right wing to put in a delicious cross for Knight to finish…an absolute scandal of a goal!

It was fantastic to see Rich Bowhill finally score a goal, after having a dry season last year…he has constantly worked hard and set up goals so a just reward for his goal.

Dodimead finally got one over the keeper with a class volley, Robertson will argue that Matt shinned it in but as we know anything is possible with M. Dodimead! Doyle and Carpenter worked tirelessly as always and caused CEV problems throughout with their movement. It’s great to have the classy Sievewright in goal as well, who still showed at a more matured age he can still reach the top corner to keep out free kicks…class!
