A trip to a wet and windy Norsemen for the mighty 4s this week. Following on from last weeks surprise defeat we knew we had to bounce back in style. Unfortunately we looked like 11 Billy no mates (I know, how can you be a billy no mates with 10 other team mates) who hated each other such was our inability to pass or even talk to each other.
As a back four we should have learned from the first few times Norsemen got in behind us that they we quick out wide and up top, altough everything looks quick against our back four who have the average speed of a Lada going up a hill! We didn’t learn and fell behind to some shocking marking and neat play by Norsemen. 0-1.
We got back into it when we finally looked like a team and strung five passes together. I don’t quiet remember how it ended up a Jacko’s feet but he smashed it into the corner from the edge of the box. Great finish, 1-1.
Norsemen got back in front when Fevzi was hooked from behind trying to clear, the ball broke to their centre forward who calmly smashed past Dan in goal. 1-2.
Again we got back into it when we strung a few passes together. The ball was played to the Yank who held off his marker and slipped a lovely ball through to the on rushing Jacko who finished it like it was one of Serges lovely pasta dishes. 2-2.
We managed to get to half time without conceding and had a brief exchange of views which mainly centred around working as a team and encouraging each other although we should really have been given the hair dryer by Paddy Mac.
Like we’ve done in most games this season we ripped into the oppo for the first 20 minutes of the second half, leaving Dan a cold, wet and rather jovial spectator. Jimmy and Steve started to get on top of midfield and we looked far better. We had numerous chances to score and Stu, who was seen meditating at half time to cheer himself up had one cleared off the line.
After Norsemen weathered the storm they started to play on the break attacking with real pace. The back four stood up to this with Captain Fantastic seeming to be in the right place most of the time with some composed defending.
In the last ten we had a few chances with Kurt sending one into orbit and Karl on a one man mission to knock any remaining leaves off the trees behind the goal!!!
A draw was probably a fair result although we were a little gutted not to have got the winner. The good thing is that as a team we know what we were doing wrong but we need to be able to fix it during matches rather than waiting till half time. Lets carry on the good work of last weeks second half to this Saturday and have a good crack at the cup.
