Alexandra Park 7s 1 – Alexandra Park 6s 1

Minor Division 4 North | October 5, 2013

Scorer: Lefverne-Jones

Derby day was finally upon us, our biggest game of the season. El Classico 6’s V 7’s!

Although we matched up in preseason, these were two very different teams from then, both on great form & winning streaks. We lined up with a 4-4-1-1 formation: Jamie “Golden Gloves” Roberts in goal. A back four of Dit,Tim,Will and new boy Jack Curran. In the middle we had James and Tom. W with Jack.D and Lewis on the wings. Charlie played in the hole being the link between Tom.K & the midfield. The bench was made up of Callum, Darren and Dan.

The game plan was simple, to keep the ball on the floor and play. This was backed up by the fact that we have an average height of 5’6 to theirs of 6’6!

We started well, creating the majority of the chances and we were finally rewarded through a well worked team goal which Charlie finished with a well placed shot into the corner. Celebrated by our now trademarked “Swan/Bird” team celebration. The goal brought the 6s to life, to which we responded well, managing to contain goal machine Jan & Jamie pulling off some great saves. Changes were forced with Dit having to come off due to injury & Callum coming into LM with Jack dropping into LB.

Halftime came with a well deserved lead. However in the second half things changed & we spent the majority on the back foot, but did well defending against the giant trio of Pete,Jan & Banny. Although their efforts did pay off, with a helping hand from the ref who failed to spot an offside in the build up (Banny has admitted to this in training!), with a poachers goal.

Final score 1-1, overall, it was a hard fought point gained rather than lost. Our hardest game yet and a great team performance. As for MoM, that would be James whose work rate was outstanding as well as his defensive cover. Lets keep up the work lads!
