An injury ridden squad, with 7 regulars missing, suffered a thrashing at the hands of Broomfield. After being the better side for the opening 15 minutes, the 8s let in a staggering five goals before half time….. two free headers and a cheap penalty included.
With the game well over by the break the 8s put in a brave second half effort and defended well against the attacking hosts. George Waldrum and Dan Ware had excellent second halves at full back, and Jack Parsons and Gavin Johnson work tirelessly in midfield, despite the home team’s number 8 doing his best to foul them every time they got the ball.
New signing Eric Madgewick went close to pulling a goal back on two occasions, and his strike partner Richard was a handful for the home teams defenders.
Jamie Roberts, as always, pulled off some excellent saves and the score remained 0-5 until the last ten minutes, when Emlyn Robbins smashed a spectacular OG into his own net, giving the keeper no chance. Broomfield added a seventh late on to complete the misery.
Aside from a horrific half an hour in the first half, the 8s didn’t actually play that badly, and the scoreline was a bit harsh. We need a huge effort against Winchmore Hill on Saturday to end the league season on a high.
MOM Gavin Johnson…….closely followed by George Waldrum.
