Scorer: Firth

A review of the performance by Matt Piner

After a gutsy away win like this, where there was lots of shouting, I think it’s important we all get complemented. So here is a verbal pat on the back for each of you:

Michael O’Reilly – Well deserving of his clean sheet. Made everything look easy, seemed to have super glue on his gloves and crippled one of their best players.

Josh Hyde – So much for playing out of position! Dominated their attackers and looked a threat going forward.

Andy Burwell – Led by example and a couple of thunderous tackles to win 50-50s late in the game spurred us all on.

Steve Saunders – “he just knows football” someone said to me in the bar. 2 vital ‘Bobby Moore style’ perfectly timed challenges were a particular highlight.

Matt Piner – Average.

Brad Firth – Getting almost as many goals as he does ‘injuries’. Tenacious performance and won us the game with his well taken strike.

Will Lewis – justifies his inclusion in the team for those throws alone. Organised the defence superbly when it got into ‘backs to the walls time’.

Sam Battams – Ran himself into the ground and always seemed to choose the right ball. The heartbeat of our spirited performance.

Marek Kralik – Gave us a much needed outlet with his direct running on the ball. Always a threat.

Matt Dodimead – Livewire. ‘Troubled’ the keeper with one turn and shot and despite drawing a blank I’m still backing him to finish the season with his goal a game ratio intact.

John Gatenby – Promising debut and gives us much needed physical presence upfront (in some cases a bit too physical…). Potentially a goal machine when he gets match sharp.

Peter Milligan – Lovely footballer. His touch and awareness in central midfield helped us regain some attacking impetus when he came on. A new position perhaps?

Jack Dudmish – Showed the touch and composure that destines him to play at a much, much higher level. No-one can believe how young he is.

Right, now I have dished out this lavish praise, anything less than 3 points against Old Parks on Saturday will be really embarrassing. Our division is really tight and with 5 games to go, relegation or promotion are both still very realistic possibilities. So let’s keep battling and finish as high up as we can.
