Winchmore Hill 5s 5 – Alexandra Park 4s 2

SAL Minor Div 2 North | October 29, 2011

Another bad day at the office for the 4th team as the slump in form continued. The first half continued in the same poor manner as the defeat against Norseman the previous week . Too many players (especially the skipper) unable to play the simple pass. Not enough movement and no quality of possession for Angelo and Jack upfront. With the wind at our backs we had enough of the ball and did create some chances however we were simply not good enough in possession and not physical enough without the ball. Dan was isolated on the right hand side of midfield and was pretty much a spectator in the first half as we struggled to move the ball around the pitch and get him in the game.

We went one down through a scrappy goal but equalized just before half time through one of Lamberts better touches. 1 -1 at half time and we were still in the game.

Winchmore Hill are a very tall side and with the wind at their backs they turned into Stoke City. With their 6’4 striker up front we had no answer to their continued long throws and corners. I think we only conceded one goal from open play and all the rest came from set pieces chucked onto the man mountains head.

We went 5 – 1 down and Angelo scored a good consolation header near the end. We were better in the second half even though we conceded 4 goals. Dan was in the game on the right, Tom, Seb and Liam worked hard in midfield and Ian was getting forward from left back. Angelo and Anthony were still starved of quality possession but looked lively when they got the ball and put in a good shift up front. There were a few moments in the second half when we knocked the ball about and showed our quality. More football like that and we will soon be back to winning ways.

Our back four need to keep their spirits up after a tough week. Michael did very well in goal and made some excellent punches/saves.

We will get better and the lads playing in the 4th team for the first time did not look out of place. Onwards and upwards.
