Goals; McGoohan (2), Kralik, Tabram, Horner, Kanybekov
Whilst conducting our lengthy lengths in the warm up we noticed Broomfield 5s were pushing it to make the 2:15pm KO – Alex Jeater informed us that there was “Queueing traffic on the A406 Bowes Road (North Circular Road) eastbound in Palmers Green at the B106 Brownlow Road junction -in the roadworks area.” – I guess everyone needs a hobby. Their delay did give us time to reflect on our worst performance of the season so far when they’d beaten us 1 – 0 at Firs Farm.
In our usual 4-4-2 debutant Hirons started in goal with Kreftling, McGlogan, Jeater and Taylor right to left in defence, Kralik, Battams, Howarth and Horner right to left in midfield, McGoohan pushed up front alongside Tabram – Kanybekov and Donnelly on the bench. We’d talked about starting well and when Taylor kicked the ball out over Horner’s head things looked ominous but it didn’t set the tone. Shooting downhill we overcame the tricky conditions and began creating chances which Horner, Tabram, Kralik and McGoohan should have all done better with.
Such was our domination in the first half it got to the point where we wondered if it was going to be one of those days. But after a couple of handball appeals were turned down by the ref he had no choice but to give the third when a Broomfield defender appeared to pat the ball after some good work from McGoohan. Broomfield appealed vehemently but it was stonewall. McGoohan stepped up and fired us into half time a goal up.
Whilst the first half performance may have been pleasing, to come in only a goal up was disappointing and we talked about keeping it tight playing up the hill.
Our concerns were removed however when we began the second half as we’d finished the first. Creating chance after chance it was only a matter of time before we did. Kralik got the goal before Tabram scored our third both from Horner crosses. Tabram was then replaced by Donnelly who swapped with Howarth and Kreftling came off for Kanybekov.
Some good link up play between Battams, Howarth and Donnelly then released Horner who fired straight at the keeper but with enough power for the unfortunate stopper to palm into his own net. McGoohan then got his second when the keeper was caught too far of this line and the striker hit a composed strike from 35 yards and the rout was complete when Kanybekov took one of McGoohan’s foot from a yard out.
A pleasing piece of revenge for the 1 – 0 reverse, it really could have been double figures and another win at home (P4 W4 GD20), we need to take this form into our next game and on our travels.
MoM – Jeater – took his mind off the terrible traffic to put in a commanding display at centre back.
