Yet again I find myself on a Sunday morning sitting in front of my laptop having to dredge up the afternoon before from the murky depths of my hung-over mind.
I do not know if it is a booze-fuelled hallucination, but we murdered Weirside. We were completely dominant, the game was basically played in their half, but one offside goal and one slip up at the back when we were chasing the game put paid to our chances.
“Sometimes in football you have to score goals.” – Thierry Henry.
We actually played really well – the new 4-5-1 system worked excellently, but we really need to take our chances. We have not scored in 270 minutes of football, and it really is not good enough.
“The missing of chances is one of the mysteries of life.” – Sir Alf Ramsey.
Build up play was excellent, but we kept squandering chances – one on ones, long range efforts, goal line clearances. Kieron was floating in some beautiful crosses and corners that we could not convert, and several long throws were dropping and bouncing in the 6 yard box – criminal.
“If you don’t believe you can win, there is no point in getting out of bed in the morning.” – Neville Southall.
There were positives to take from the game – we actually played very well. We have to believe that we can win and compete in this division.
“The world looks a totally different place after a win.” – Gordon Strachan.
One goal, one positive result, one win will kick start the season. Let’s keep the faith.
