Les Anderson

We are sad to report the passing of Les Anderson.

Les’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 3rd September at Parndon Wood Crematorium, Harlow, Essex, CM19 4SF at 10.45am.

There will then be a reception at West Essex Golf Club, Bury Rd, Chingford, E4 7QL.

All members old and new are welcome to both events or one if that’s all they can make.

Dad joined AP in 1954. He was playing at Darlington FC at the end of his National Service when he was scouted by Bill Houston the manager from AP.

He played in the great AP side of the mid fifties with the likes of Jack Drake, George Warner, Bev and Brian Edwards amongst others and winning the AFA seniors Cup in 1955. He continued to play until the early 60s.

He rekindled the connection in 1986 when he brought me to the club and renewed old friendships. He then spent the next 30 years travelling all over London watching me play and supporting any AP team he could get to watch. He last turned out in Tangerine and Black in 1998 against Southgate Olympic.

He took particular enjoyment in watching the likes of Jed Wood, Ben Carter and Gary Jones and possibly his favourite match was an epic 4-5 win away at Southgate Olympic when the 3rd XI were 4-0 at half time and down to 10 men and Kurt Fullerton had stepped between the sticks to save a penalty. Ashley Brade scored the winner at the death. We often recalled that day.

On a personal note I would like to thank every player who came into contact with Dad, you all made his love of AP all the more precious whether it was in the 1st team or the 6th team. Thank you

If anyone wishes to make a donation in his memory, please make it to Cancer Research.
