Alexandra Park Vets 6 – Waltham Forest 3

BSFL Veterans Div 1 | October 23, 2016

Scorers: Jenkins (3), Adrian Smith, Cowen, Pollard

Football’s a funny old game: 2 hat-tricks, great football, poor football, wonder goals – come and watch the Vets it certainly is entertaining!

Following on from last weekend win AP Vets were looking for their 3rd win on the bounce against a Waltham Forest side win a single loss to their name.

With a full squad of players, we were up and ready for another tough game.

The oppo started with 10 as one of their team was late and we made the most of this scoring in the first 5 minutes.  Ross who tormented the oppos defence all game skinned their left back and crossed for Adam to get his first.

We were making our extra man count and made it 2-0 when Adam slotted home again.

At this point the oppo’s 11th man turned up but we kept up the tempo and Adam got his hat-trick guiding the ball in at the back post from Jason smith superb pin-point corner.

At the back, the defense were keeping their fast and lively number 11 quiet. The player giving us more of a headache was their no. 8 that was sitting in the whole between their forward and the midfield.

We got our 4th from another excellent corner by Jason with Adrian Smith heading in at the back post.

Still playing good passing football a slick move down the left got Mike Pollard free in the box and he expertly placed the ball past the onrushing keeper.

5 – 0 at half time and the chat was to continue playing passing football.

Whether it was a loss of concentration or thinking the game was won we started to punt the ball long and miss out the midfield.  This led to us giving more and more possession to the oppo and their No. 8 scored a screamer from 22 yards past Egan.

The game was starting to get more niggly with the oppo trying to get free-kicks at the slightest contact and this further knocked our concentration.

Waltham Forest almost got a second but a clearing header by Grant went for a corner.  From the corner their No 8 scored from a free header.

We were getting a bit fired up and needed another goal to make sure the oppo couldn’t get anything from the game.  This came when Jamie scored at the back post.

Waltham Forest No 8 duly got his hat-trick with 10 minutes to go slotting home from the edge of the box.

Although it was a win the team were frustrated to concede 3 goals.

We need to concentrate for the full 90 minutes and even more importantly play passing and possession football.  By-passing the midfield puts us under pressure and we have the players not to have to do that.

3rd win on the bounce – let’s make it 4 against local rivals The Vamps this weekend.
