Alexandra Park 4s 1 – Winchmore Hill 6s 0

SAL Minor Div 1 North | April 2, 2016

Scorer : Tolcher

After an unfortunate loss to Broomfield last week the 4s needed a good performance to try and stay at the top of the table. We had played and lost to Winchmore twice this season already but both games had been close fought affairs so we knew we needed to be on our game.

After a period of acclimatisation from both sides to the quirks of the Pitch 3 we started to impose ourselves and gain control of the midfield. We created a couple of good chances early on but without really troubling their keeper. We had a great chance to take the lead when White found himself one on one with the keeper but the ball bobbled away (a bobble on pitch 3? I find that hard to believe – ed.) from him just as he was about to tap the ball in. We took the lead about 30 mins in when a cross from the left was half cleared and fell to the onrushing Tolcher who drilled it past the keeper.

The second half was a completely different story as we struggled to get out of our own half Winchmore having the majority of possession. Our backline held up valiantly however and when they did get through Emmott in goal pulled off some great saves. The closest Winchmore came was hitting the crossbar from a freekick and a miscued McGlogan clearance that narrowly went wide. With 5 minutes remaining an ill Casswell came on to shore things up in the middle of the park and help us see out a rather nervy win.

MoM: Tolcher
