The first 15 mins of our league fixture away to Broomfield were fairly evenly matched with both sides having a few chances a piece but as the half progressed we started to take control of the midfield and use Arowosafe’s speed and Charles skills on the wings to create some good scoring chances for Spencer and Daio. Shortly after Fox had hit the post with an acrobatic effort we took a deserved lead about 25 mins in via a speculative 25 yard effort from Spencer that the Broomfield keeper helped into the net. The goal gave us an extra gear and we should have had a couple more before half time if not for some marginal offside decisions going against us.
We started off the second half where we had left off pressing on for a second to gives a bit of breathing room but once again our finishing let us down as we squandered a number of chances – the details of which I will leave out to spare any embarrassment. With just the one goal difference Broomfield, sensed there was still something in for them, went all out attack and after a period of pressure won a dubious penalty to level the scores. The remaining 20 mins were end to end stuff with chances for both sides: Broomfield alumnus Lagos fizzing one just over for AP and Cook in goal pulling off an excellent save down to his left. The winning goal came after some good play down the left by Arowosafe who’s parried shot was scrambled over the line in true poacher style by Spencer.
Another very good team performance, we were very solid at the back, with McMorran in particular having an outstanding game, and always looked threatening going forward and but for a bit more composure in front of goal we would have seen this game out very comfortably.
A big thanks to Seb, Roman and Charley for stepping up at the last minute – all made strong contributions – and to Mo and Mickey for their support on the sidelines.
