Crouch End Vampires 5s 0 – Alexandra Park 5s 1

SAL Minor Div 2 North | April 11, 2015

Well what can I say…another typical 5th team performance against a very different team we played earlier on in the season where we won 5-1! However still a similar CEV team with little morals and lacking sportsmanship. Their GK was very lucky to stay on the pitch for trying to pick a fight with Forbes. Who reacted brilliantly by doing absolutely nothing. And at the end of the game Vamps didn’t seem to want to give us three cheers and a few of their players refused to shake hands…great stuff!

But apart from this AP showed yet again why we are top of the league for keeping our 11th clean sheet of the season (9 for Sievewright) and Knight scoring his 10th goal of the season…even if he did pick up a black eye on the way to scoring… well worth it! We probably didn’t have the best first half as movement wasn’t brilliant and we were getting sucked into Vamps game by not getting the ball on the floor and passing it about. However we did create chances… Dodimead and Robinson were unlucky not to score from goal scoring opportunities. We also hit the bar as ‘the fumbler’ actually pulled off a half decent save! Paddy Knight also had a decent header saved. Our defence looked solid as usual even with a couple of changes. McMorran on at centre back was influential and a brick wall throughout. And Liam Doyle was tenacious at right back (I’m starting to think this lad can play anywhere).

Our goal came midway through the second half… maybe a little controversial as Vamps had a decent penalty appeal turned down…it would have been harsh it had been awarded though. The ball was lumped forward and Paddy found himself chasing a high bouncing ball versus the keeper…there was only going to be one winner! 1-0 K night off with a black eye. Paul Forbes was energetic throughout and skinned their right back on many occasions. Chris Wilson and Rich Bowhill were unlucky not to score as they both had decent chances and bossed their roles throughout the game. Fortucci seems to win every header in our matches even though he is probably our shortest player. His tenacity made sure we dominated centre midfield throughout the second half.

With a couple of players missing this week Josh Hyde and John Parker were called up and filled in brilliantly. Parker’s pace and persistence caused problems and was unlucky not to score for the 5s. Josh,  who will be a regular for the 5s next season, didn’t put a foot wrong when he came on.

After the game we made our way to the club house as per usual to show a good turn out for the presentation evening and our winners Joe Robinson (Player of the Year) and Paddy Knight (Goal if the season) deserve their awards fully but highlight of the evening was picking up Team of the Season! Something the 5th XI have prided themselves on throughout this season…true team work and not a team of individuals.
