Winchmore Hill 6s 1 – Alexandra Park 4s 1

SAL Minor Div 1 North | February 7, 2015

Scorer: J.Smith

A bright start saw us create a few half chances before we took the lead from a corner with Joe Smith sending a header from 10 yards out which looped over the keeper and under the crossbar for his first AP senior goal. As we continued to control the game Winchmore started getting a bit more physical with Forbes in particular getting some rough treatment first with a late tackle from behind and then a push as he ushered the ball out for a throw-in that saw him end up in the brambles by the touchline. The back four were untroubled aside from a couple of errant back passes which presented Winchmore with a couple of one on ones that Holder in goal did very well to save.

After a first half where we were very much in control we started the second very slowly. Winchmore got the equaliser about 10 mins when we failed to clear a short goal kick which caught us on the back foot and a cross from the left was turned in by the striker as he managed to get a toe just in front of the covering Fox. With both sides pressing for a second the game came much more open. We had 2 golden chances to retake the lead with Stevenson hitting narrowly over and Kenga hitting the bar. Winchmore also came close a couple of times with their best chance being a shot from 11 yards out after a cutback from the right. Their midfielder hit the ball perfectly only for Holder to pull off a world class save with a full stretch top corner dive and turn the ball around the post. Following a bit of a scene on the touchline following a robust Earle challenge the final chance of the game came from a Jones free-kick which looked to be heading for the bottom corner only for the Winchmore keeper to make a good save to keep the scores level.
