Winchmore Hill 7s 0 – Alexandra Park 5s 3

SAL Minor Division 2 North | October 11, 2014

Scorers: Brown, Carpenter, Twyford

What an absolute barnstormer of a performance against second in the league!

Our impressive start to the season continued against a very competitive Winchmore Hill 7s team that beat us at the end of last season! Our team has improved and this game was one of our best that I have witnessed in an AP shirt.

One thing to improve on is how we start a game, as we have been a little slow out of the starting blocks for the past few weeks. However one thing the 5s can boast about is how we defend as a team, and only conceding 3 goals in 5 games is testament to this! After the first 20 mins and a slight reshuffle to a 4-5-1 formation we started to get a foothold in the game.

Our midfield was excellent this week, with and without the ball. The ever impressive trio of Watson, Carpenter and Bowhill providing cover for our defence and passing with composure is a pleasure to watch from the back. We utilised our wings well with Doyle and Twyford (On for the ill Parker) making headway against WHs wing-backs.

The formidable presence of L. Brown up top helped as well as he held the ball up superbly and was a nuisance all afternoon. It was great link up play from Brown and Twyford that set the ball rolling with Twyford ending the moving finishing into the bottom corner (who cares what part of his leg the ball went in off!)

The second half was even better and we started to pull the opposition across the field with some great passing, however the need of a second goal was vital to finish the game off. Up steps Tom Carpenter to shoot from distance, it didn’t quite find the top corner but it did find the keepers dodgy gloves and slipped through into the back of the net!

Our third goal was the best and Brown’s hard work was capped with a great finish after impressive work from our midfield and a very composed debut performance from Robertson.

A top performance from all the team which has to be followed up with a battle vs Vamps this saturday! The more points we have before xmas the better due to the almost certain imminent winter break of flooded pitches!

Also the 5s social shall be a lot more rowdy if it is following a smashing of Crouch End Vamps…bring on Saturday!!

Team: Sievewright, Rae, Robinson, Wright, Murphy, Twyford, Carpenter, Watson, Doyle, Bowhill, Brown SUBS: Parker, James Robinson, Robertson.
