Alexandra Park 7s 6 – Old Parkonians 7s 0

SAL Minor Division 3 North | September 20, 2014

Scorers:  Weston (2), J.Dudmish, Smith, Goring, Rodrigues

This was our second game of the league season and after a well earned point against old finchleans, given the circumstances, we were looking to push on for 3 points. The ground was set for a good match, only problem was, come kick off there was no sign of a red and white shirt to be seen. Although, fortunately, they did show around quarter past one. The advantage was that, with them having to start straight away they had to miss out on a warm up.

We capitalised straight away with two early goals through both J.Dudmish & Weston slotting home after some neat footwork. We continued to dominate the game, although, we did concede a penalty for what was a Tom Daily standard dive late in the first half! Which Gustavo saved after showing his best impression of having Jerzy Dudeks legs. Then came Bens second of the game, almost a mirror image of his first.

Half Time 3-0

Coming in at half time, there were some shocked faces regarding the score line, against what is usally a well organised old parks. Our attacking mentality continued straight into the second half with James Kennedy playing a lovely long ball over the top to Goring who finished first time with one of the best dipped volleys I’ve seen! Within minutes came our fourth through Smith, who broke free before tapping it home. Later, after some hard tackling came our sixth and final goal of the game. Rodrigues getting the finishing touch to a goal mouth scramble.

Overall, a great team performance with everyone stepping up their game and hopefully this lays the foundation for what can be a successful season for the 7s.

M.O.M – has to go to Gustavo, who sporting a new hairstyle for the game, has kept his second consecutive clean sheet for us including a great penalty save.
