Broomfield 4s 1 – Alexandra Park 4s 6

Minor Division 2 North | March 1, 2014

With all cup distractions out of the way for another season it was back to our first league game of 2014 against Broomfield.

We lined up with our now traditional 4-3-3, can it really be traditional after only using it twice? Anyhow we started with a strong 11 and had a few debuts in midfield thanks to captain fantastic’s scouting network. From the start we tore into the oppo knowing that a few goals would kill them off.

We went ahead after ten following some good work by Olly and Riley sending Paddy the Austrian through on goal who calmly slotted past the keeper. The second followed soon after when Luca broke down the left cut into the box and was cleaned out of it. Up stepped Paddy the Austrian to tuck away the penalty. 2-0.

We added one more just before the break when more good work from Jimmy and Steve sent Luca on his bike again who fired across the keeper into the far corner. 3-0.

Broomfield did muster one or two chances but they were dealt with by the defence and Steve was quick and alert any time he was called into action.

Jimmy’s half time talk was all about keeping the clean sheet and maintaining the tempo, however this went out the window for the first 10 minutes of the second half. He also did manage to sneak in a little rant about throw ins which always raises a smile following the great ‘Throw In Gate’ scandal of 2012!

Dillon managed to knick one on the counter after we weathered the early storm before they denied us or clean sheet. A peach of a ball was floated across the box that seemed to avoid everyone except the right winger on the back post.

We got another two before the game was out with Luca grabbing his second and Conor knocking in the other with virtually the last kick off the match.

All in all a solid performance and we looked solid at the back which allowed the midfield and forwards to control the game. Our wing backs provided great support in attack when required and even managed a couple of shots one of which is still lost out Broomfield way!

No clear candidate for man of the match as it was a great team performance (I know cheesy), but honourable mentions to Riely and Luca (dodgy tights aside) who made solid debuts.

Double header next week so more of the same please.
