Old Parkonians 4s 0 – Alexandra Park 4s 1

AFA Cup | January 11, 2014

Cup game this week for the mighty 4s against Old Parks who are a division above us.

We started well in a revolutionary attacking 4-3-3 formation. From the off we looked hungry and the three in midfield worked well breaking up the play and getting the ball moving. We looked at our best when the full backs got on the ball and opened up the pitch which got a little boggy in the middle towards the end of the match.

Our first of several first half chances came when a low corner from Denzel was flicked on by Steve Biss only to be denied by the bar. Another chance came from one of their corners when we played the ball well out from the back and some neat play by Brucey and James Earle got Denzel on the ball in the box only to be denied by a great save from their goalie.

Before the end of the half James Earle cracked another off the bar and the ref made a few suspicious offside calls when we were in. Old Parks hadn’t created much in the first half but whatever they threw at the back four it was gobbled up.

It was inevitable that the pace we had played at in the first half couldn’t be maintained in the second and to be fair to Old Parks they upped their game.

The game sea sawed in the second half and the travelling support from AP were not disappointed with the exhibition of football on display.

We finally got the goal our football deserved when Brucey played a peach of a ball into Denzel who calmly slotted past the goalie. 1-0

We didn’t create too much after that but Steve in goal did pull off one or two solid saves to keep us ahead.

All in all a good result with some great displays from James Rae, Brucey and Steve Biss.

Let’s keep this going next week.
