Goals: J.Dudmish(2), W.Dudmish, Sulemanji, Kamara, Smith
After some disappointing results of late in the league, we were this week welcomed with the chance to redeem ourselves in the AFA Cup where a win would push us into the quarter finals.
We arrived early at the Racecourse in high spirits for what would be our last match before the Christmas break. After a thorough warm up of pelting as many shots at Andy as possible, we realised that with five minutes to go until kick off we were without an opposition. This led to Crofty mentioning “what happened to the good old days when a team only turns up with 10 men?”, well as luck would have it, they did.
The game was there for taking, and as expected, we dominated straight away. Our first came when the oppo cleared the ball poorly from our corner, which allowed Jack D to finish on the half volley just inside the box. Minutes later our second came, again from a corner, when Tom Kaverne done well to head the ball home. Our dominance continued with some great passing and movement going forward.
The third was scored by the most unlikely of players. After nearly 2 and a half years since scoring his last (not that I’m counting), Will converted Smith’s delivery through a flicked effort which saw the ball roll into the bottom corner. Shortly after provider turned into scorer, with Lewis doing well to hit a low driven shot in for our fourth, to which he celebrated as though it was a 90th minute winner in a cup final. Half time came and we saw ourselves 4-0 up.
A lapse of concentration early on in the second half saw us allow Suttionians to grab a goal back, but we managed to keep our confidence and continue our first half display. Our lead was extended from nowhere, when new boy Kamara smashed home an absolute thunderbolt from 30 yards leaving even the oppo applauding. Dit got on the scoresheet too after neatly tucking away a rebound first time. Our last came after Jack went on a solo mazy run and finished powerfully into the roof of the goal.
I just want to say thank you to the 7s for their effort at the midway point. Let’s push on in the league and continue this cup run!
Great performances all round as the score line would suggest, but MOTM goes to Jack D who put on a great display in the middle, which was capped with a brace and was unlucky to not get his hat-trick.
