A trip to Wembley for the mighty 4s this week to face Broomfield. We’d played Broomfield already in the cup and beaten them pretty comfortably but depending on which team shows up they can be a handful. Luckily for us they showed up with 8.
Obviously we started well with all the possession but couldn’t break them down for the first ten minutes, in which Broomfield nearly nicked one on the break. We nearly got our breakthrough though when Seb was brought down in the area. Up stepped Jacko to smash it home only to be denied by the goalie and to make it worse Broomfield were now up to ten.
Still we persevered with all the optimism of an Arsenal fan thinking they are going to win the league. After a hopefull ball foward from defence Leon volleyed home from the edge of the box. 1-0, finally.
We nearly went two ahead just before the break when Murphy danced into the area only to be denied by an outstanding save from the goalie.
Jimmy’s half time motivational speech seemed to work as we ripped into Broomfield. I don’t particularly remember the order of the goals in the second half but I know Leon got three more, Dominic netted two on his debut, Jacko got one and TC with the other awarded by the dubious goals committee.
All in all a great team effort and we finally buried a team after creating so many chances. The only disappointment was that we didn’t shackle the lone centre forward better and we conceeded a scuttery goal from a cheap free.
Big game against Vamps next week and only 3 points will do to get us right up there. At the moment all the top teams are beating each other with the regularity of another poxy reality TV show on ITV so if we can string a few results together we’ll be on our way.
MOM: Steve Biss produced a controlled performance all day in the middle and kept us constantly moving but man of the match has to go to Leon who bagged 4 goals. Not bad for a holding midfielder turned striker. He even managed a smile!!!
Team: S. Dddddd, P. McGlogan, D. Hoey, S. Johnson, J. Murphy, L. Brown, S. Biss, S. Bell(J. Lambert), J. Morris(D. Koorman), TC Ekuno, B. McMeekan
