The 10th XI’s second game and a stiff test against the 6s who are going well in their division. The 4-0 scoreline doesn’t reflect just how close this game was for long periods. The 6s scored two late goals to ram home their superiority in the last 10 minutes when we ran out of gas in midfield, but everyone on the 10s team should be proud of their efforts. Thanks to all those who turned up on a wet day at Albert Rd.
The first half was an even affair. The 6s had more possession but didn’t trouble Paul in the 10s goal that much while Tobias had to make several saves. That said, we gifted the 6s the lead when John Scantlebury was left free to head home a corner. Poor marking, that. After, we played well with Terry Betts, Jo Brobby and James Martin more than matching the 6s in midfield. We got the ball out wide to Axel Manzano who put in some great crosses while Jon Robson and Torq were solid in defence. Referee Gibbs then gave us a penalty for a “foul” by Mike Myers, but Tobias guessed right to parry Adnan’s spot kick. 1-1 would have been the least we deserved.
Midway through the second 45, the 6s took the lead again after a poor clearance. We created fewer chances but Adnan should have scored from six yards out after a great cross. The 6s substitutions made a big difference with Milligan, Law, Spencer and N’Gola causing us all sorts of problems. Eventually two late strikes from Banny and Tom saw them home. Still a gutsy display from the 10s with many good individual performances. Right back Mike Pollard was simply awesome and was the 10s MOM.
Team: Williams, M. Pollard, Robson, Pagdin, Whitbread, Manzano, Betts, Brobby, Laszlo, Mounir, Muhammed. Subs: Bagley, Basaran, Coghill and Martin.
