On a grey and cold afternoon at the Vamps the 8s played well and deserved a draw but failed to take their chances when on top. This was a cracking game played in a good spirit unlike the game on the adjacent pitch featuring Vamps 4s v Old Finchleians which featured three red cards and ended in a punch-up!
After some initial Vamps pressure and a few corners, AP got a foothold in the game with Andy Crawford especially impressive on the right wing. Dominating possession, we created two takeable chances but Niall Joyce and Andy shot wide in good positions. Edd Layton also went close with a 30-yarder. 0-0 at the break. The skipper was confident we could take the points if we continued to play neat to-feet football. The second half was a battle with few chances for either side. Just as Bagley was contemplating a clean sheet, Vamps scored from a free kick from outside the box. AP pushed for an equaliser and the game got very open. We threw everything at the oppo but a clear-cut scoring chance failed to materialise. Vamps attacked and a loose ball was stabbed in for 2-0. Harsh on the boys who battled so well with Andy, Will Dudmish, Jamie Cowen and Emlyn Robbins all impressive. That elusive first win can’t be far away.
