Norsemen 5s 1 – Alexandra Park 4s 5

League | March 31, 2012

Astropalitis (2), Earle, Gatenby, Reynolds

Complete domination from the 4’s as we finally delivered the performance we’ve threatened all year. The first ten minutes were fairly even but once we got used to the small pitch, we were all over the oppo, Earle and Seb in the centre were ‘running tings’ and the back four of McGlogan, Saunders, Rae and Lambert dealt with everything Norsemen could throw at them.

We went 1-0 up when Earle beat a man on the edge of the area and bent a left footed drive past the keeper from outside the area. A quality finish and a goal of the season contender in my opinion (not according to Jacko though). With Tabram and Gatenby linking up well, it wasn’t long before Gatenby forced a second, chesting a ball down from a free kick and rolling it past the keeper.

Reynolds scuffed one in from one of Earle’s epic long throws and we went in at half time 3-0, which meant Jimmy had to quickly come up with a new team talk, one he’s not had to deliver all season. Jack Morris came on at half time to replace Jimmy, who was knackered after a number (one) of barnstorming runs into the oppo half.

Norsemen brought on a number of substitutes who actually made them play a lot better, but we coped admirably and continued to press, with Angelo netting a brace, the first from a free kick from 30 yards and the second a drive from about the same distance which looped over the keeper.

A great performance and safety secured, let’s finish with a win in the last game. Special mention to Seb who almost ruined his ‘rustic’ good looks thanks to a flying Norsemen elbow.
