Alexandra Park 4s 1 – Old Owens 4s 1

League | March 10, 2012

The 4s welcomed top of the table Old Owens to the racecourse on Saturday.

We started with an all new strike force of Tabram and Gatenby with Lambert returning to the starting line up to add a bit of weight to the midfield.

With AP playing down the slope in the first half it was important to settle early and put some pressure on the visitors.  Angelo as per usual was keeping both the opposition and the referee busy.  I am not sure who he confuses the most.  After he finally decided to stop flirting with the opposition and ref he decided to concentrate on football and earned us an important free kick.  He then whipped in a stunning ball which was met by ‘Stupot’ at the back stick and it was 1 nil AP.

On balance we shaded the first half but Old Owens had created enough for us to realise we needed to do more.

Doug Rice came on to bolster the defence with Lambert moving out wide to utilise his pace and the energetic Rae moving into centre midfield to bound around like a Geordie tigger.

Both teams had chances in the second half but Old Owens probably did enough to deserve their equaliser even though it came directly from a corner.  The game finished 1-1.

A very good performance from all 13 players involved but special mention goes to Pat who had a fine game at right back.  Gatenby and Tabram were brilliant up front and no one worked harder during the match.

We are still not safe in this league so we need to keep up the hard work.
