Alexandra Park 3s 3 – South Bank Cuaco 0

SAL Junior Div 3 | December 15, 2007

Scorers: Martin Bolton, Adrian Cumberbatch, Ben Carter

As Christmas draws ever nearer the availability of players diminishes. With the bare 11 after 1 no-show we entertained a South Bank side looking for revenge after we had beaten them a couple of months earlier.

After an enforced lay-off of 2 weeks the good quality flowing football of previous weeks failed to materialise. The game was scrappy overall but the extra bit of quality in the AP side finally told.

We took the lead after about 15 mins following a corner. The initial cross found its way back out to Ben Carter who then supplied a lovely pinpoint cross for Skips, who had ghosted in at the far post, for him to head home what will surely be his only goal of the season! (I’ll get that in before anybody else!) There was not much else by way of incident in the remainder of the half. 1-0 at half time.

The half-time team talk consisted of the need to keep disciplined, good communication and quick effective passing. Well at least we got the first part right! South Bank were kept very quiet up front thanks to the attentions of Naidoo, Simpson & Toll. Again most of the play was condensed into the midfield third until about 15 mins left. The game started to get a little stretched at this point with SB looking for the equaliser & AP looking for the killer goal. 5 mins to go and with the game looking like it would peter out without further scoring Ben Carter picked up the ball about 35 yards out. He cut across field from the left on his right foot and unleashed a sweet strike from 25 yards out into the bottom left-hand corner. It sealed the points and we could breathe easily. To put the icing on the cake, with the last kick of the game, Martin Bolton scored from close range.

A good battling team performance especially the back 3 who all put in good performances. Special mention goes to Ben Carter who had a superb game on the left, both providing and tracking back against a nippy right winger, capped with a top goal.

Team: Shahidi, Naidoo, Simpson, Toll, Cumberbatch, Bolton, Graham, Smith, Carter, Vazquez, Gayle.
