Alexandra Park 7s 3 – Old Finchleians 7s 4

SAL Minor Div 3 North | April 9, 2016

Scorers: Miller, Sulemanji, G.Brooks

We was robbed. No other words for it. 10 minutes to go, 3-2 up and much deserved… we contrived to throw it all away in dramatic fashion. As the last minute hopeful smash from outside the box sailed over the defence and our keeper a little bit of me died. Ok well a little over the top, but certainly it was the final nail in the coffin of our hopes this season. To be honest little could have been done about that shot and it sums up the way our luck has been going. Only 5 minutes earlier our lead had been wiped out when Finchleans poked into the net after my header away fell straight onto the boot of their player as we attempted to clear a dangerous cross. Before that we had chances to put the game to bed, but failed to take them, notably Banny’s header from 2 yards out. We had battled ahead in the match for the second time after George scored what seemed like the winning goal. He tells me it was Zidane-esq though I’ll have to take his word for it, as I can’t remember it!

I thought the first half had already contained enough drama, we went 2-0 up only to be pegged back to 2-2 again. Those goals seemed soft, one rebound off the keeper which Oli chased up and got his rewards. The second came via the penalty spot after Oli was tripped, the penalty was sweetly dispatched into the corner by Ditmar. But in equal measure we gave away a penalty at the other end, Dan bringing down their striker when there was little threat to the goal and then a speculative shot almost from the touchline looping over Henry in goal. All in all it was pretty gutting. It was a game we should have won, but we lacked fight when we needed it the most and our luck ran out. MoM goes to Paul T for his distribution and creativity in the middle.
