A trip to Wembley for the mighty 4s the week to entertain a young and energetic OFs. We managed to field 11 although we had the look of a defensively minded team who were on a mission not to concede any goals.
We started slowly which was to be expected as we didn’t have time for a proper warmup with the kit only arriving 30 min before kick off. We weathered OFs early pressure and started to get the ball down and play some nice football with Ellion and Dillon getting some decent chances. We kept plugging away till half time but couldn’t get the breakthrough.
The half time talk centred on us putting more pressure on OFs and we got our reward 5 min into the second half. A lofted clearance from the back was misjudged by the centre back and the nimble Ellion rounded the keeper to give us the lead. 1-0 and nothing more than our pressure deserved.
OFs then went all out attack but couldn’t get it to work in the final third with the midfield of James, Seb and Stu breaking down the most meaningful attacks. Anything that did break through was mopped up by the back four.
With 15 to go disaster struck. Paddy Mac lunged into a tackle in the six yard box but got the man first leaving the ref with no choice. Up stepped their striker only to be denied by Toby. This spurred us on further with James, Fevzi and Doddi linking well down the right on a number of occasions as OFs began to tire, with Doddi dragging one just wide with 2 to go.
All in all another good result. Not one of our most fluent displays but definitely one of the most satisfying. We had to battle all the way to the end and everyone chipped in. All we can do now is hope Norsemen slip up and we keep winning. Same again next week please.
