Another game for the mighty 4s against Finchleans but this time their unbeaten 4s. Like their 5s Finchleans 4s are a physical team who always give you a hard game.
We all got to the ground in plenty of time for Geordie Jim to put us through our paces with some shooting drills. Finchleans looking on must have been intimidated or impressed by the quality of our finishing! Dan eventually got to the ground a few minutes before kick off and thanks to the lack of a northern line service got a lovely bus tour of Barnet, Edgware and Finchley!!!
From the off we matched Finchleans man for man in every tackle and didn’t let them intimidate us. Finchleans took the lead after ten minutes when we switched off after a quick throw. The ball was swung into the box, half cleared and with Seb trying to complete the clearance he screwed the ball expertly over Dan. The goal seemed to inspire all in tangerine and we ripped into Finchleans. After some good play in the middle from Jimmy and Seb, Liam broke down the left cut inside and slipped a text book through ball to Jacko who smashed home from 10 yards.
From there we pushed on and took the lead when Stu floated in a beauty that Jimmy finished like the seasoned pro that he is. To be honest all he had to do was put his head on it the delivery was that good!!! We kept it tight till half time although it Dan still had to pull out one or two great saves to keep us in front.
Playing up the slight slope in the second half we knew that Finchleans would launch it long or try play on the counter. The back four dealt with everything that was thrown at them superbly and with Seb, TC and Olly, who had come on for Jimmy, cutting out most things that Finchleans tried to play through midfield we looked pretty comfortable in possession and started to play some great stuff. Like a few weeks ago we rarely gave away any silly frees and anytime Finchleans did get through they normally conceeded a silly free so we could relieve the pressure.
We went 3-1 up after some great work by Denzel and Jacko, Karl got on the end of the ball beat one of their defenders and calmly blasted past the keeper with all the subtelty of a bull in a china shop. I don’t think I’ve seen him place it past the keeper!!!
Finchleans pulled one back when they finally got the ball through the middle. It broke to their big man up front who rounded Dan and tucked it away. We got our two goal cushion back following another silly foul from Finchleans which allowed Stu to whip one into the box. Their keeper came for it but had a bit of a Joe Hart moment and the ball broke to Karl who again tried to rip the net apart when he smashed it home. 4-2, game over??? Not with the mighty 4s, we like to keep things interesting and we duly obliged when with around ten to go Finchleans managed to knick one on the break that was suspiciously offside to make it 4-3.
We weathered the storm quite comfortably for the remaining 5-10 minutes when our discipline and structure was fantastic. Overall a good win against a team that will be there or there abouts this season and we continue our unbeaten start. Plenty of positives to take from the game on Saturday and everybody was right up for it from the start. If we keep playing this way we can win this league which is the only way we can get promoted and is our main aim for the season. Well done all and lets continue on Saturday where we finished on Saturday…
