Old Owens 7s 2 – Alexandra Park 7s 4

Minor Division 4 North | September 28, 2013

Goals: Tullet, Lefever-Jones, Kaverne, J.Dudmish

The 7XI made the long trip to Potters Bar where we found ourselves up against an Old Owens team who were last week on the end of a 10-0 defeat. With everyone aware of the fixture the week after, a result here was crucial to keep the momentum of good results going.

We managed to go two goals ahead in the early stages of the first half through some good link-up play between the wingers and strikers, with Darren and Charlie doing well to convert their chances. You’d imagine from there we’d have pushed on and dominate, but not quite. From there on until the half time whistle we seemed to fall asleep and lacked a bit of creativity. With this Old Owens were able to snatch two quick goals which saw us go into the half-time break at 2-2, and a bit disappointed.

The second half begun pretty evenly, with both teams not really being able to make any real goal scoring opportunities. The 7’s, nor Old Owens, were prepared to settle for a draw and with that both sides pushed on in search for that all important next goal. Tom, introduced at half-time, produced a wonder goal which saw him lob the keeper from the edge of the box, giving us the lead with around fifteen minutes to go. Old Owens had to go for it from then on and with that they became sloppy defensively. Our forth came when Ditmir, Callum and Jack done well to work it up the left side to which Jack finished well to seal the win.

Great performances from everyone again, we’re getting stronger as the weeks go on! MOTM goes to Tom Kaverne who done great to link up play between the midfield and strike throughout the final 45, and scored a lovely goal to round off a good performance.

Next up, the El Classico vs the 6’s, and a chance to go top of the league! No Friday night drinking (which shouldn’t be a problem as half our team are underage), save that for after our victory on Saturday!
