The game was played with a wind that made controlling and passing the ball very tricky and was not much of a spectacle for the one spectator who had ventured out of the clubhouse. The shape of the team was excellent this week with Derek and John getting a grip of the midfield and offering some great protection to the back 4. Closing players down and tracking back made it very difficult for the oppo to get a shot on target.
This solid shape was rewarded when David broke down the right wing and gave the keeper no chance. We were now playing some really good football and a passing move from the back saw Torq produce a lob/cross/shot over the keeper to make it 2-0 at half time.
At the start of the second half it was EBOG’s who started the fastest and it was down to Max Wild in goal to pull off some save that Gordon Banks would have been proud off ( he might be too young to remember him). The first saw him deflect one over the bar from a one on one situation, then he punched one out from underneath the crossbar from an in swinging corner. As if this wasn’t enough he managed to get fingertips to two shots which came back off the underside of the bar to be gathered safely by him. Unbelievable performance.
David came back on in an attacking position and linking up with Tom he gave us the cushion of a third goal. Tom had a great game leading the line and always showing for the ball. The defence then held out to give Max the clean sheet he deserved and the first one I have been involved in since I can’t remember ( well I do play in defence ).
