Skipper was late to get to Bounds Green. Not good enough. 5 players left frustrated standing around for 40 minutes. It would not be the last frustrating moment of the day. Three players turn up 30 minutes into the first half. Not good enough (you know who you are and turning up 20 minutes before kick off is not good enough either).
We began with 11, Peter new to the team on the right side of midfield, everyone else with 4th team experience. We started brightly but once again fell behind to a couple of poorly defended goals. 2 nil down but not all was lost. Morris sprinted through the middle of the Winchmore Hill back four and with only the keeper to beat decided to scoop the ball at full tilt over the advancing keeper. A very difficult finish brilliantly executed.
We then somehow managed to concede a third poor goal just after half time which halted our moment. The three musketeers came on and we picked the pace up to pin the oppo back. For the last 35 minutes of the game we played some excellent football. Gyapon (D) superbly finished off a sweeping move down the left which ended in a very clinical finish into the bottom left corner. Busari won a penalty which Astropalitis smashed home and all of a sudden it was 3 – 3.
Alas, with two minutes to go the skipper failed to close down a cross from the right and we were unlucky to concede an own goal. Our fourth clinical finish of the day!
4 – 3 and the silence in the changing room said it all.
We were good enough to call ourselves a 4th team when we had the ball. Without the ball we were no where near good enough. Another game goes by with the oppo wanting it more than AP and shock horror we lose again. This needs to change!
