Scorers: Brough (2), Josh Brimacombe-Wiard (3)
If its goals you want then you can do worse then turn up to watch the 7ths in action. 3 games and a total of 32 goals means that nipping off for a cup of tea could result in you missing a lot of action.
Losing Pagdin , Lewis and Fletcher before the match was added to by the fact that Lord Byron didn’t read the newsletter and when we phoned him he said he was in Bristol or something like that. So thankfully Brough Junior decided that he would like to play with his mate Josh Brimacombe-Wiard who despite training with Barnet FC thought that he really needed to discover how football should be played.
Having lost the doubled barrelled Lord Byron we managed to get another one with Elliott’s mate (no team should be without one really). So onto the game with the bare 11 and Ricardo on his way.
Broomfield are a good team and we were soon under the cosh as they raided down either wing, as the full backs came under continual pressure due to the wingers not tracking back. But against the run of play we launched an attack and the ball fell to Brough in the area and he drilled it home to make it 1-0. We were then unlucky that Brough was caught offside having headed the ball into the net which would have made it 2-0 (c’est la vie as € said to me ).
Attacks continued to rain down on our defence and the pressure led us to conceding 3 goals. The 7ths had a new resilience and our new double barrelled named player latched onto a through ball and made it 3-2. Back in it, let’s keep it tight lads and then we fail to cut out a ball into the middle of the area and its 4-2. The half wasn’t over and it was left to Brough to drill one home to make it 4-3 at
half time.
We rode our luck in at the start of the second half when over-elaborate finishing by them and a couple of unbelievable saves from Scott, which were straight out of the Gordon Banks handbook, kept the deficit to one.
The double barreled boy then bought us level and it really was end to end stuff. Their 3 subs bought extra pace to the attack (like we really needed that ) and they regained the lead . Then a move started by Brough to Brough to double barrelled boy bought us level again.
12 minutes to go , could we hold out, er no we couldn’t and a shot which came off the bar and bounced the wrong side of the line for us saw us go behind again . Darren was then called off side despite looking like he had started the run in his own half (apart from that the ref had an excelent game ) and then in the last minute the ball fell to Gallaway in the box and it looked easier to score but then
being Jon he doesn’t do easy and so the game ended.
Some great performances, with Jamie excellent at right back and the two youngsters in Elliott and the double barrelled boy who despite scoring 5 goals between them did also contribute by making the odd pass and tackle.
