Alexandra Park 7’s 2 – Crouch End Vampires 3

06/10/2012 | Alexandra Park FC

Scorers: Keverne , Wyn-Bennis

Just before the game the players are gathered together to talk tactics, when the conversation invariably turns to the need to talk to each other. Torq puts his hand up to say that he is probably the worst offender at this and as a result he would like to be known as ‘Doesn’t Torq’, as his therapist said this might help. Ewan suggested that bad information is better than no information and as some of us pondered on the repercussions of that statement for the world’s financial markets and Ewan’s up coming speech at the Conservative party conference, the whistle blew to call the team to order.

An even first 10 minutes with chances at both ends eventually saw the Vamps take the lead as their quick left winger crossed the ball into the box for their forward to slot home. We had gone with 5 in midfield with Tom as a lone striker and this was starting to give us more control of the ball. A sweeping move saw the ball arrive at Tom’s feet in the box and we were level. We were now dominating and a ball over the top landed at the feet of David and we were 2-1 up . Another break from David saw him beat the keeper but the ball hit the post and then ran along the line before being cleared.

As is the way with the fates of football we went from nearly being 3-1 up to being level as a goal mouth free for all saw them equalise – 2 all. The second half saw chances at both ends and it was from a cross that the vampires headed the winner. Another defeat but some excellent football was played and that first point is out there somewhere.
